General availability (GA) is when a product is available to the general market, and is not limited like in an alpha or beta release. Here’s my GA Checklist Template for product launches.
The template is a checklist. Reason is, as the checklist manifesto says, it helps us avoid mistakes, which are often a result of us not applying what we know, rather than us not knowing.
This GA checklist template contains a detailed list of tasks with owners and due dates.
- These are organized by phase: definition, planning, development build, pre-release, release, and post-release.
- Releases may have varying purposes and audiences: alpha release, demo release, internal beta, private beta or public beta, preview release, and GA release.
- The tasks are for product development, IP/legal and go-to-market (GTM) teams.
The template can and should be customized for a company, product team, and product opportunity.
All the best on your product launches.
PS: Check out more articles on building products. I write to pay it forward and to clarify my thinking.
