Product Philosophy in Quotes

The Golden Rule

Empathy for users, customers, and our business is the bedrock of a great product.

“If you want to build a ship… yearn for the vast and endless sea.”

This quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry speaks to me how a compelling product vision can have a tremendous impact.

“A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved.”

Charles Kettering nails how crucial it is to clearly articulate why we are building something. This is what the problem statement or opportunity statement in the product opportunity brief does.

“Above all else show the data.”

While Edward Tufte was referring to the visualization of quantitative information, to me this applies more broadly to the transparency and ethics inherent in trustworthy products.

“All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one.”

Inspired by Malala Yousafzai, I believe great products can show people what’s possible, expand their access to opportunities, and give them the power to pursue it.

PS: I write about building products to pay it forward and to sharpen my thinking.
